Our Mission and Vision
Mienh Christian Youth Association (MCYA) is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization that envisions a discipleship movement to empower the local Mienh Christian community.
We provide leadership development to create a culture of disciple-making communities in local churches by:
Grounding leaders in the Word (2 Tim. 2:14, 3:16)
Equipping them for the works of service (Eph. 4:12)
Understanding the times to impact the world (1 Chronicles 12:32)
Our History
MCYA was established in the summer of 1989 by a group of Young Adults that led the Mien Youth Camp committee hosted at Lassen Pines Camp in Shingletown, California.
During a time of great need, many newly immigrated Mien youth and young adults suffered from feelings of displacement, trauma, and loss of identity. This caused some to turn to gang activities, drugs, and other illegal activities at the time.
Dr. Chiem-Seng Yaangh and many other young leaders saw the need and importance of creating a space for children of Mien immigrants to come together and fellowship with one another in hopes that this would encourage the community and an opportunity to hear the Gospel of Jesus Christ, so that they may find hope. Throughout the West Coast, from Anchorage, Alaska to Visalia, California, the local Mien churches would send their youth and even non-believers to MCYA youth camp every summer. Allowing for over 300+ campers and staff members to gather.
As the MCYA camp ministry grew, many local churches and missionaries volunteered their time as Camp Counselors and Staff Members. We are grateful for the many years of love and support from Andrew Lai, who was also a former MCYA Chairman, for his dedication to the Mien Youth and Mien Community. We also thank the youth and staff at Chinese Bible Church in Los Angeles, California for their years of training and equipping young Mien leaders. And so many more leaders and local Churches that came alongside us through the years.
Today, MCYA still exists to serve the generation after us. We believe being Mien-American and Christian is a sacred part of who God made us as we continue to honor our history, our culture, and God’s perfect design.
The current volunteer Board of Directors remains committed and active in the local Mien communities, hoping to continue serving the greater Mien communities by bringing the gospel close to our homes. We have been blessed to continue witnessing countless lives and Mien communities be transformed by the Gospel of Jesus Christ and redeemed by His love for us.
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believe in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
John 3:16
